Birthday presents

It's my birthday today and can you guess what my favourite presents have been?

That's right, LEGO!
LEGO Creator sets
I like LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets because (if your dad doesn't throw out the instructions) you get to take the models apart and make something totally different. Also you get loads of spare pieces in each pack.

Here are some of the Lego Hero Factory figures that I got along with the Hulk Superhero kit.

And I also got a cool Captain America set. Do you like the effect I added? The biggest set that I got was from my aunt Isobel, but I haven't made it up yet, but I'll add another photo when I do.

Okay, I've made this Marvel Super Heroes Avengers set and remembered to add a photo now...

The beginning

The creator of LEGO was called Ole Kirk Kristiansen. LEGO, the toy company, started off just making wooden toy's from cars to animals with wheels. The word LEGO is from the Danish phrase leg godt meaning 'play well'. In Latin LEGO can be translated as "I assemble".

Ole Kirk was a carpenter and in 1916 he bought a little company in Billund, in Denmark and made furniture and houses. During the Great Depression his business was struggling, so he used his skills to make children's toys. He made wooden blocks, yo-yos, pull along animals and lots more.
These are some pictures of old wooden LEGO toys. Yo-yos were popular at the time, but then people stopped buying them, so Ole Kirk used all the spare yo-yo parts as wheels to make trucks.

I am just getting started with this blog. My plan is to write about LEGO, my favorite toy, and about its history. Please come back to my blog soon to see my updates. Thank you.
